What every figure means, what the script sends, what is left out and counted apart, what is never kept, and for how long. Signed in, your site's own tables are here too.

Never kept

  • The visitor's address, and the browser's full string.
  • Cookies of any kind, and anything read from the device.
  • The full query string: only the parameters a site keeps, such as utm_*.
  • Click IDs such as gclid: that one was there makes the visit paid, and is gone.
  • The visitor key, after the day it was made for.

A day's key joins one reader's hits for that day and is removed when the day closes at 00:00 UTC. A bot's address is used once to check it against its owner's list, and dropped.

What each figure means

Views
Every time a page was opened. Bots, spam, retries and other hostnames are left out and listed.
Visitors
Counted once a day per site: a key made from the day's secret, the site, the address and the browser. The secret is destroyed at 00:00 UTC, so tomorrow the same reader is a new visitor. Over more than one day this is a sum of daily counts, not a count of people.
Visits
A run of views and events from one visitor with gaps under 30 minutes, inside one UTC day.
Views per visit
Views divided by visits.
Bounce rate
The share of visits with one view and no event.
Visit time
From a visit's first hit to its last, averaged over visits. A visit with one hit lasts zero seconds.
Events
Every time an event was sent.
Conversions
Every time the goal was reached, under the goal's definition at that moment.
Visitors who did it
Visitors who reached the goal at least once that day. Summed over days.
Rate
Visitors who reached the goal, divided by visitors, over the same days and filters.
Counted without a key
Views from a browser that sent Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. They add to views and to nothing else.
Exit rate
Visits that ended on the page, divided by the page's views.
Time on page
How long a page was in front of its reader, with its tab showing: the page says when it is left, and the seconds are averaged over the views that said. A view closed with its browser may not get to say, and is left out of the average, not counted as zero.

What the script sends, all of it

sthe site's name, from the tag
pthe page: its path and query string. The query is cut to the site's list on arrival
rthe referring page, on the first view of a page load. Stored as a host and a path
wthe screen group: 1 phone, 2 tablet, 3 laptop, 4 wide. Never a size in pixels
ean event's name, when the hit is an event
dan event's properties, as the page gave them
van event's money value
cthe currency of that value
ia random number for this one hit, so a retry is counted once. Not stored
hon a site in hard mode only: the ID in the cookie of a visitor who agreed. Never sent by the script an easy-mode site is served
twhen a page is left: the seconds it was looked at, with its tab showing, since it last said. With this, what is sent is not a hit, and only the site, the page and the next field come with it
awith it: how many seconds ago the view it is about was sent, so the time can be added to that view. Not stored
zwith it, on a site that turned scroll depth on: how far down the page had been on screen, as the deepest twentieth of its height, 1 to 20. Never a position in pixels
